Today, 21 tech companies from North America, Asia, Europe, and Africa came together as the first-ever Global Coalition to End Wildlife Trafficking Online. As members of this coalition, tech companies pledge to work together to collectively reduce wildlife trafficking across platforms by 80% by 2020. In collaboration with WWF, TRAFFIC, and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), each company will develop and implement policies and solutions to help end wildlife trafficking online.

The annual value of wildlife crime globally is as much as $20 billion, according to the UN Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). More than 20,000 African elephants are illegally killed each year for trade in their tusks, and nearly three rhinos are poached each day in South Africa alone for their horns. Countless species are under threat from trafficking, accelerated by online access to consumers, most of whom are unaware that the product they are buying could be devastating species populations and funding crime gangs. Addressing this issue in partnership with these companies is a critical step toward ensuring a world without rhinos, elephants and thousands of other creatures does not become a reality.

The Minister said these cases showed that some Malaysians had the money to buy more exotic animals as pets. He said Malaysians had developed a taste for luxury and this was driving the demand for wildlife as pets. Wan Junaidi went on to warn the public that there would be no escape from the law for those who traded protected wildlife online.

Good morning. I'm Noel King. In 2018, a French couple bought a kitten online, and after a week, they realized they would need a bigger litter box. Their new $7,000 pet was actually a Sumatran tiger cub. It's an endangered species native to Indonesia. So the couple handed the kitty over to authorities, and seven people have been arrested for trafficking. That tiger is now a lot bigger and is in the care of the French Biodiversity Office. It's MORNING EDITION.

CHENNAI: Forest officials in Vellore and other parts of the State are verifying the authenticity of an online claim by a pet trader promising tiger cubs for sale. A 24-year-old youth from Vellore was arrested on charges of trying to sell two tiger cubs online. The Forest Department is holding investigations into the youth and his friend about the whereabouts of the said tiger cubs.

The arrested youth identified as Parthiban had posted a message on his WhatsApp status about selling two tiger cubs and after receiving the tip off about the message, Forest officials in Vellore along with the Police, nabbed Parthiban.

It was found that Parthiban along with his friend, Tamizh, who runs a pet shop in Ambattur, was involved in selling pets and exotic animals. The duo had been visiting pet shows across the country and purchased rare species. The animal and bird species were sold online by both Parthiban and Tamizh. Following information, Forest Department officials took Tamizh under custody and are investigating. Tamizh had informed the officials that the message of selling tiger cubs was also posted in a WhatsApp group and the duo planned to sell two cubs for Rs 25 lakh.

However, the officials are yet to locate the tiger cubs as they were not found in the houses of Parthiban and Tamizh. The Forest Department is also investigating whether the message posted by them was fake and whether the duo had planned to con people in the name of tiger cubs.

The unnamed couple, who live in Le Havre, forked out 'several thousand euros' for a Savannah cat after spotting an advert online, but got more than then they bargained for when they were given a baby tiger.

A Savannah cat is a cross between a wild serval cat and a domestic cat. They are legal to own in France - whereas tigers are not legally allowed and are protected by the CITES treaty meaning they cannot even be transported without the proper paperwork.

Despite looking markedly different, the couple told police they were unaware they had been given a tiger cub for a few days and once they suspected something was wrong, they called the cops who then launched an investigation.

According to France Bleu, the tiger was in good health when it was rescued and was handed over to the French Biodiversity Office, before it was eventually given a new home although it was not revealed where this was.

We are so excited to announce the birth of three critically endangered Sumatran Tiger cubs at Taronga Zoo Sydney! With as few as 350 Sumatran Tigers left in the wild, the birth of these adorable cubs is an incredible success story for this rare species.

First of all, different states have different laws. Owning a pet tiger is considered legal or is unregulated in eight states, all of which have rather lax regulatory laws concerning animal rights in general: North Carolina, Alabama, Delaware, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Fourteen other states require a permit to own a tiger or any other big cat. Meaning that roughly half of the states accept pet tigers on a legal basis.

In addition, one of the largest issues in keeping a tiger is the issue of space. A male tiger in the wild keeps a territory of around 40 square miles, while a female maintains around 7 square miles of territory. Regardless, few people own this amount of land, much less are even able to enclose a large enough space for their tiger to reside in.

The end result is that often tigers live in decrepit squalor, in tiny pens piled high with their own waste. Tigers living in tiny pens will quite literally lose their minds, becoming hyperaggressive and attacking anything that comes near their enclosure. In the past 10 years, around 21 fatalities have been attributed to big cats. Despite being accustomed to human interaction, the fact remains that tigers associate humans with food, and this association can and has turned fatal. Many animal rights organizations work tirelessly to attempt to overturn the legal status of owning tigers. After a certain incident in Ohio in 2011 when a man released his tigers into the community, along with many other wild animals before committing suicide, Ohio has established a ban on owning big cats.

The unidentified couple from Le Havre told police they stumbled across an online ad two years ago for a Savannah cat, which is a cross between an exotic African serval and a domesticated feline, French outlet France Bleu reported.

Supplemental material, sj-pdf-1-vdi-10.1177_10406387221074709 for Cutaneous and splenic mastocytosis in a juvenile Malayan tiger by Rebecca C. Smedley, Nancy L. Stedman and Matti Kiupel in Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation

Splenectomy may induce tumor regression and prolong survival in domestic cats with cutaneous and visceral MCTs,7 and may have been helpful in our case. However, because facial and torso tumors were already regressing prior to splenectomy, the role of splenectomy in tumor regression in this tiger cub is uncertain. It is also uncertain why the paw tumors persisted longer and were substantially larger than those on the face and trunk. Paw tumors were traumatized by ambulation and the cubs playing with them, but trauma is not reported to exacerbate growth of cutaneous MCTs. 041b061a72
