We are excited here at St. Michael's Abbey to bring you a novena in honor of St. Michael and the nine Choirs of Angels to prepare us for the feast of Sts. Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael on September 29. The Chaplet of St. Michael was approved by Pope Pius IX in 1851. Sister Antónia d'Astónaco, a Portuguese Carmelite nun, had a vision of St. Michael who told her to honor him by nine salutations to the nine Choirs of Angels. These choirs have been revealed to us in Sacred Scripture. They are the Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominations, Powers, Virtues, Principalities, Archangels, and Angels.
